Wonderful foster parents for baby Baobabs

Annah, a wonderful Bao baby Mother

Baobab wilding is about enrichment-planting of baobabs back into the wild.  To prepare for this we are growing baobab trees from seed.

Some are in Dr Sarah Venter’s nursery at EcoProducts and other trees are being grown by community members in villages around Venda, oftentimes with precious, little available water in the arid environments where Baobabs thrive.

The trees in the nursery have been transplanted to bigger bags and are growing well.  The plan is to plant them into even bigger bags so that we can encourage the growing of the underground tubers. The trees in the communal areas are also doing well, they were germinated about a year after our nursery trees.
