The last but not the least of our Baobab Guardians

We have 9 more trees to measure in the Baobab Guardians program around November this year and then we have accomplished more than our initial objectives for the Guardians that we started off with in 2014.

Our focus onward, will be more on our exciting Baobab wilding programme.

These last 9 trees are dotted around Dambale village in the Limpopo River valley.  The excellent rain the two months of January and February 2023 have helped the baobabs grow beautifully.

Guardians Joyce Tshirundu and Sarah Mathebe’s trees have both reached their target of 3 healthy meters in height. They now have the best kick-start for survival above the browsing height of goats and cattle and can be left unprotected to become big, fruit bearing trees in the future.

These trees were planted in December 2020, which just goes to show that with the right care and protection baobab trees can grow fast.
